Australian Made Plantation Shutters Timeless Style for Your Home
Our plantation shutters are one of the most stylish and versatile window coverings you can add to your home. With their wide louvres and clean design, they offer timeless elegance while giving you complete control over light, airflow, and privacy.
At Hervey Bay Screens & Blinds, we supply and install high-quality plantation shutters that are custom-made to suit your home and lifestyle.

Why Choose Plantation Shutters?
Plantation shutters are more than just a design feature. They provide practical benefits that make them a smart choice for any room in the house:
Light control – tilt the louvres to let in natural light or block it out completely.
Privacy – adjust the angle of the slats to enjoy privacy without losing your view.
Insulation – shutters help regulate indoor temperatures, keeping your home cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
Low maintenance – easy to clean and built to last, they are perfect for busy households.

A Long-Term Investment
Unlike curtains or blinds that may fade or wear out, plantation shutters are a durable investment that can add value to your home. Their timeless appeal and solid construction mean they won’t go out of fashion, and they’ll keep delivering benefits for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can they be installed on all window shapes and sizes?
Because our shutters are custom made, we can work with just about any window configuration. Louvre windows, bay windows, sliding doors and bi-fold doors are all doable. Non-standard sizes are exactly why we come out to measure in person rather than asking you to guess.
Will plantation shutters make my home noticeably cooler in summer?
Yes, and this is because they act as a genuine thermal barrier. When you close the louvres during the heat of the day, you’re blocking direct sun from entering and helping keep that cool air inside. Many customers find they’re running their air conditioning less, which over time does add up.
How long does the measure and quote process take, and is there any obligation?
Not long at all and we usually have a good picture of what you need within 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how many windows you’re looking at. We bring samples so you can see and feel the actual product in your own home with your own lighting, which makes a big difference compared to looking at something in a showroom. There’s no pressure and no obligation, we just want you to have all the information you need to make the right decision.
Do plantation shutters add resale value to a home?
They genuinely can, yes. Buyers respond well to them because they read as a quality, permanent fixture rather than something that was thrown in cheaply. Unlike curtains or roller blinds that a buyer might want to replace anyway, shutters tend to be seen as a bonus as they’re already done, look great and they work as intended.
Can plantation shutters be installed on windows that already have flyscreens or security screens?
Yes, and this is actually a really common setup in Hervey Bay homes. The shutters are typically fitted to the inside of the window frame, while screens sit on the outside, so the two work independently without getting in each other’s way. If you’ve already got security screens or insect screens on your windows, don’t let that put you off as we’ll assess the setup when we come out and make sure everything works together neatly.
What louvre size should I choose and does it make a difference?
It does, and it’s one of those decisions that’s worth thinking about before you commit. Generally speaking, larger louvres (say 89mm or 114mm) suit bigger windows and create a more open, contemporary feel when the slats are open.
Smaller louvres have a more traditional look and can work well on smaller or more ornate windows. A good rule of thumb is that larger louvres let in more light and give a less obstructed view when open, which a lot of our customers really love. We’ll show you samples in your home so you can see exactly what the difference looks like before deciding.
If a louvre gets damaged, do I need to replace the whole shutter?
In most cases, no. Individual louvre blades can often be replaced without having to redo the entire panel, which is one of the practical advantages of shutters over fabric-based window coverings. The repairability of shutters is another reason they stand up as a long term investment and a minor knock doesn’t mean starting from scratch. Just give us a call and we’ll advise you on the best course of action.
